Undermain Reads: Ilira by Thomas Riccio

“Where have you, my souls, gone? I will wait and watch with the ancestors.”

In 1911 Sinnisiak and Uluksuk, two Inuit hunters on the Arctic Ocean, kill two Catholic priests. The incident, known as ‘Bloody Falls,’ became a national sensation, the clashing of old and new, the primitive and the civilized. Ilira (pronounced e lear ah) is a kind of fear. A blend of awe with intimidation – like looking at a winter storm.
