The Sound and the Fury by Erik Ehn

“Man the sum of his climatic experiences. Man the sum of what have you. A problem in impure properties carried tediously to an unvarying nil: stalemate of dust and desire.”

Directed by Erik Ehn

May 3 – June 7, 1997 at Undermain Theatre

Innocence forfeited for sexual promiscuity. Aristocracy forfeited for desperate capital greed. Honor substituted for orthodoxy. These are only a few of the themes of the Undermain Theatre’s presentation of William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury, adapted and directed by playwright Erik Ehn. Many consider The Sound and the Fury, which portrays the decline of the once-aristocratic Compson family, to be Faulkner’s finest work.
